Frequently asked questions

Everything you need to know about booking a visit, MSP coverage, and how telemedicine with BridgeCare works.

Is BridgeCare covered by BC MSP?

Yes. For eligible BC residents with a valid Medical Services Plan (MSP) card, BridgeCare appointments are covered by MSP — there is no out-of-pocket fee for the visit. Have your Personal Health Number ready when you book, and we'll confirm eligibility.

How soon can I be seen?

Usually the same day or the next. BridgeCare is built for prompt, acute care—so when something comes up, you can often see a doctor without waiting days or weeks. Check live availability when you book.

Will I see the same doctor each time?

Yes. Unlike many virtual clinics that route you to whoever is free, at BridgeCare you see the same doctor—Dr. Babak Ghavami—visit after visit. That continuity means you don't have to re-explain your history every time.

How do I book an appointment?

You book online through our secure booking system. Choose a time, enter your details, and you'll receive a confirmation with a link to join your video appointment. No app download or account setup is required beyond the booking itself.

Is BridgeCare my family doctor?

No—and we're upfront about that. BridgeCare provides prompt, episodic care for the things that come up between or instead of a family-doctor visit: infections, refills, requisitions, sick notes, and similar concerns. We don't replace a longitudinal family physician, but we're here when you need to be seen quickly.

What can a telemedicine doctor help with?

BridgeCare handles acute and urgent concerns — things like infections, rashes, urinary symptoms, prescription refills, lab requisitions, sick notes, and follow-ups. If your concern needs a physical exam, imaging, or emergency care, the doctor will tell you and help you find the right next step.

When should I go to the ER instead?

Call 911 or go to your nearest emergency department for anything serious or life-threatening — chest pain, trouble breathing, severe bleeding, signs of a stroke, or a serious injury. Telemedicine is not for emergencies.

Can the doctor prescribe medication or order tests?

Yes, when it's clinically appropriate. Your doctor can send prescriptions to your pharmacy and order lab work or requisitions during your appointment. Certain medications and tests still require in-person assessment, and the doctor will let you know if that applies.

Do I need to live in a city to use BridgeCare?

No—BridgeCare is for everyone in BC, city or not. We see especially strong demand from Northern BC and Vancouver Island, where seeing a doctor in person can mean long drives or long waits, but anyone in the province with an MSP card and an internet connection can book. All you need is a phone, tablet, or computer with a camera.

Is my information private and secure?

Yes. Appointments take place on a secure, privacy-compliant platform with an electronic medical record (EMR), and your health information is handled in accordance with BC privacy law (PIPA/PIPEDA). We never collect personal health details through this website's contact form — booking and any health information go through the secure patient system.

What do I need for my video appointment?

A device with a camera and microphone — a smartphone, tablet, or computer — and a stable internet connection. Find a quiet, private spot, have your MSP/Personal Health Number and pharmacy details handy, and join using the link in your confirmation a few minutes early.

In a medical emergency, call 911. Telemedicine is not for emergencies or life-threatening symptoms such as chest pain, difficulty breathing, severe bleeding, or stroke signs. Go to your nearest emergency department or call 911.
